Understanding Depression

Depression isn't laziness.
It's your mind and body asking for help.

Losing interest in things you used to enjoy, struggling to get out of bed, feeling numb or disconnected — depression doesn't always look like sadness. Sometimes it's emptiness, exhaustion, or just going through the motions.

You don't need to hit rock bottom before reaching out. Our practitioners meet you wherever you are and work with you to find a way forward — gently, and without rushing.

What We Support

How depression shows up.

Persistent Low Mood

A heaviness that lingers day after day, making even small tasks feel overwhelming and joyless.

Loss of Interest

Things that used to bring joy or meaning now feel flat, distant, or not worth the effort.

Fatigue & Low Energy

Constant tiredness that sleep doesn't fix — everything requires more effort than it should.

Difficulty Concentrating

Brain fog, forgetfulness, and trouble making decisions that used to come easily.

Sleep Disruption

Sleeping too much, too little, or waking in the early hours with a mind that won't settle.

Withdrawal & Isolation

Pulling away from friends, family, or activities — not because you want to, but because it feels easier.

Our Approach

How we work with depression.

Depression responds well to evidence-based therapy — especially when it's delivered with patience, warmth, and a genuine understanding of your life.

Step 1

Create a safe foundation

Before anything else, we build a relationship where you feel genuinely heard. No clipboard checklists — just a real conversation about where you are right now.

Step 2

Understand what's underneath

Depression often has roots in unprocessed grief, burnout, life transitions, or patterns that started long ago. We gently explore what's driving it.

Step 3

Rebuild momentum gently

Small, meaningful steps — not dramatic overhauls. We help you reconnect with activities, people, and routines that bring even a flicker of purpose or pleasure.

Step 4

Develop lasting resilience

As the fog lifts, we help you build strategies to recognise early warning signs and maintain your wellbeing long after sessions end.

A rough patch usually shifts after the circumstances change. Depression tends to linger regardless of what's happening around you. If you've felt flat, disconnected, or exhausted for more than two weeks, it's worth talking to someone.

It's a conversation — not an interrogation. Your practitioner will listen to what's been happening, help you understand patterns, and work with you on small, practical steps. There's no pressure to 'perform' or have all the answers.

Yes. Even long-standing depression responds to the right support. The fact that it's been going on for a while doesn't mean it's permanent — it just means you've been carrying it alone for too long.

Not necessarily. Many people manage depression effectively with therapy alone. If medication might help, we can work alongside your GP to find the right combination. There's no one-size-fits-all approach.

It depends on your situation. Some people notice improvement within 4-6 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. We check in regularly and adjust the plan as you progress.

That's completely fine. You don't have to share anything you're not comfortable with. Your practitioner will follow your lead — therapy works at your pace, not ours.
